Always forgetting to take your pill or pick up your refill? Thanks to the innovative minds over at Walgreens, there’s now an app for that.

Earlier this week, the Walgreens App was launched for Apple Watch. Key features include the instinctive Pill Reminder and Refill Reminder functions, which promise to make adhering to a prescription regimen easier for its users — and save them money. According to Walgreens, medication non-adherence can add an estimated $300 billion a year to medical costs across the US.

Because it’s readily accessible on a wearable device, the Walgreens App is an obvious solution for medication users who struggle, for whatever reason, to stick to their drug schedules.

Using Pill Reminders, the Apple Watch app syncs with the Walgreen’s iPhone app, which lets users keep track of what medications they’ve taken or skipped, as well as which medications need to be taken next. With Refill Reminders, the app predicts when you’re running low and allows its users a simple, one-touch method to order a refill. The app even notifies the user when their prescription is ready for pickup.

In addition to the Apple Watch App, Walgreens also announced plans to integrate Balance Rewards with Apple pay later this year. Starting this fall, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and Apple Watch customers will have immediate access to apply their Balance Rewards points to Apply Pay without ever having to scan their Balance Rewards card. The transaction promises to be simple, secure, and private.

“Walgreens apps and services are designed to provide customers with ultimate access, choice and convenience – we want to help remove friction and make the customer experience as simple as possible,” said Sona Chawla, president of digital and chief marketing officer for Walgreens in a statement. “Whether that’s launching new wearables technology that promotes adherence and proper health regimens or making it easier, safer, and more private to redeem Balance® Rewards points through mobile payments with Apple Pay, we want to help customers manage their lives.”

By adding their Balance Rewards digital card to the Wallet app in iOS 9, users can apply it when they checkout with Apple Pay. Apple Pay also allows uses to keep track of and redeem their reward points more easily.
