Centro announces 110,000 square feet office expansion

Centro, a provider of enterprise-class software for digital advertising, announced this week that it is increasing its office space by 110,000 square feet in Chicago, New York City and Dallas. The company will use some of the $30 million in funding it recently secured in a Series B round to help support the expansion. By the latter half of 2015, Centro will move its headquarters to the Chicago landmark building Sullivan Center.

Avant and Signal win big at EY Entreprenuer of the Year Awards

At the 2015 EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in the Midwest, technology leaders from two local companies went home with shiny new trophies last night. At the black-tie event in Chicago Wednesday night, both Avant, a tech-driven financial company that's revolutionizing the personal loan process, and Signal, a global leader in real-time, cross-channel marketing technology, took home awards. Gray Matter Analytics hires CTO and VP of Healthcare Solutions and Business Development

Gray Matter Analytics has announced two prominent hires: Chief Technology Officer Balu Nair and VP of Healthcare Solutions and Business Development Ken Mikesh. In addition, Gray Matter secured a recent round of funding that will be used to support their ongoing efforts in the technology and healthcare fields. They will be relocating their office on July 1 to accommodate plans to double in size this year.

Techstars buys nonprofit UP Global

Boulder-based Techstars announced it was buying the Seattle-based startup events nonprofit UP Global. Details of the deal have not been released, but UP Global will no longer operate as a nonprofit, and it will continue to operate all of their existing events as they were before the acquisition. UP Global employees and programs will move over to Techstars. Techstars runs accelerators in cities around the world, including Boulder, Austin and Chicago. Silvercar cruises into Chicago as part of new expansion

Silvercar, an Austin-based car rental startup, launched its services to the Chicago market over the weekend, hoping to become a viable alternative to travelers who despise the current airport car rental system. Whittl reels in $3.3M in funding

Whittl, a price comparison and booking platform for everything from eye appointments and teeth whitening to deep tissue massages, has raised over $3.3 million in funds, according to an SEC filing last week. Walgreens introduces Apple Watch app, announces new plans for Apple pay

Earlier last week, the Walgreens App was launched for Apple Watch. Key features include the instinctive Pill Reminder and Refill Reminder functions, which promise to make adhering to a prescription regimen easier for its users — and save them money. In addition to the Apple Watch App, Walgreens also announced plans to integrate Balance Rewards with Apple pay later this year. Starting this fall, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and Apple Watch customers will have immediate access to apply their Balance Rewards points to Apply Pay without ever having to scan their Balance Rewards card. SwipeSense lands $9.7M to provide hand hygiene tech to hospitals

On Wednesday, SwipeSense announced it had secured $9.7 million in funding, according to a filing by the SEC. The Chicago-based company, which was nominated for a Moxie Award for Best Healthcare Startup in 2013, provides hand-sanitation tools to hospital workers in order to deter infections. Founded by Yuri Malina and Mert Iseri while they were at Northwestern University in 2011, SwipeSense not only arms hospital workers with a convenient and accessible way to sanitize their hands, but also acts as a compliance metric because it tracks usage data from its users [Built In Chicago].
