Many Chicagoans are busy preparing for Lollapalooza this weekend, which will no doubt be one of the biggest events in Chicago this year. But that doesn’t mean you should forget about any of the city’s startup events this week. Here are the top five tech events for you to check out.

1. Break Into Project Management, July 28 at 6 p.m.

Product management is one of the most sought-after careers in tech. Lying at the intersection between business, design, and technology, product managers gauge whether a product is viable from a business perspective, desired by customers, and technically feasible. In this class we discuss the product management landscape, what the PM role entails, who makes a good PM, and how to transition into the field. Learn how people land jobs as product managers, walk away with practical tips on moving into product management, and understand what it is like to be interviewed for the role. Registration is $30, and you can RSVP here.

2. Periscope 101: Using Mobile Live Streaming, July 29 at 12 p.m.

The power of Periscope means any person can live-stream eyewitness video from anywhere, instantly. Award-winning reporter and mobile journalism trainer Neal Augenstein has developed best practices for this quickly-evolving tool, to enable users to grab and hold an intrigued audience. This training will show how to use the free Periscope app, in conjunction with other free and inexpensive apps and tools to incorporate live-streamed video into a user’s social media, broadcast, and online platforms. Participants will be encouraged and shown how to maximize the quality of their live stream, and to consider how it can repurposed for maximum impact.

3. Chicago Enterprise Tech Meetup—Fireside Chat w/Founders, July 29 at 6 p.m.

This event will highlight a few of Chicago’s growing enterprise tech solutions. Attendees will be able to hear from three distinctive startups that are making waves in the enterprise tech space. Three founders will give a brief overview of their company, followed by a "fireside chat" with one of our Chicago ETM event hosts. Presenting founders include Brad Weisberg, CEO/Founder of Snapsheet; Aaron Frazin, CEO/Founder of Charlie App; and Bill Burnett, CEO/Founder of PointDrive. Please RSVP.

4. STP Networking: WeWork with Fireball Whiskey, July 30 at 5:30 p.m.

WeWork Fulton Market is joining with Fireball Whiskey to bring you a complimentary night of whiskey tasting and conversations with your local members of the WeWork community. WeWork transforms buildings into beautiful, collaborative workspaces and provides infrastructure, services, events and tech so our members can focus on doing what they love. WeWork’s mission is to help to create a world where people work to make a life, not just a living.

5. How to Get Investment from a Venture Capitalist in Silicon Valley, July 30 at 6 p.m.

In today’s business environment, the competition to get investment from a venture capitalist from Silicon Valley is fierce. VCs get hundreds of business proposals submitted to them, but only a small fraction get looked at and an even smaller number actually get funded. Come out on July 30th to hear first hand what VCs from Silicon Valley look for when investing in a company. What value do they place on the “team,” on the idea and on the business opportunity? Silicon Valley is flush with cash, but what you need to learn is how to separate yourself from the pack. In addition to the panel discussion, there will be food, drinks and networking among your peers.
