has cooked up another smokin’ hot headline.

This week, the Chicago-based startup announced the close of a $10 million Series A. Led by Shining Capital and Guild Capital, the fresh batch of funding will be used to fuel expansion across the country, including the opening of a West Coast distribution center.

“In the meal kit delivery service space, there are a growing number of players focusing on providing consumers with fresh ingredients and unique recipes, but Home Chef is creating a service that brings variety, flexibility and simplicity to home-cooking in a way that no one else has,” said Pat Vihtelic, Founder and CEO of Home Chef in a statement.

Today, the 400-person Home Chef team delivers more than 540,000 meals each month. Their rotating menu of meal kits, which include fresh, pre-portioned ingredients and easy-to-follow recipes, runs about $9.95 per kit, with meals delivered on-demand to consumers’ doors.

“We have a long way to go before our service and others begin running into each other. The market for food in the U.S. is massive, and as more people become aware of the convenience of cooking with meal kits, we are able to continue to grow and bring fresh ingredients and delicious recipes to people’s kitchens,” Vihtelic added.

Despite Home Chef’s newest infusion of capital, the company still plans to raise even more funding in the “near future,” according to the release.
