5 Chicago tech events that'll make you glad it's only Monday

Each week we highlight five tech events that should be on your radar. This week’s list includes an inspirational keynote from “Survivor: Africa” winner Ethan Zohn at 1871 and a panel on the skills needed to start a career in the digital world. From Winning Survivor Africa to Crushing Cancer — A Discussion With Ethan Zohn, July 31 at 5:30 p.m.

1871 hosts cancer survivor and “Survivor: Africa” winner Ethan Zohn for a talk about inspiration and overcoming obstacles. After his keynote, Zohn will be joined by Jellyvision CEO Amanda Lannert for a fireside chat.

DialogTech with General Assembly presents "The Fastest-growing Jobs of the 21st Century: A Panel of Digital Experts,” August 1 at 6 p.m.

Join DialogTech, General Assembly and a host of professionals from Chicago’s top tech companies for a panel discussion on how to land and advance a career in the tech world. Drinks will be served and there will be an opportunity to network with panelists and attendees.

VC Access — For Entrepreneurs & Investors, August 2 at 5:30 p.m.

Venture Connects invites all Chicago entrepreneurs and investors to the Ironside Bar & Gallery for a night of drinks and networking. Make sure to leave your perfect pitch at home as this is solely a networking event.

Disrupting work with wearable tech, August 2 at 6 p.m.

Wearables are often thought of strictly in a B2C context, but they’re also making waves in the enterprise tech space. Speakers from Lockheed Martin, Stridekick, TechNexus Venture Collaborative and more will discuss the impact of wearables are having on the workplace.

Building Custom Alexa Skills using .NET, August 3 at 6 p.m.

This meetup will show you how to build custom skills for Amazon’s Alexa using both the Alexa Skills Kit and Microsoft .NET technologies such as C#, ASP.NET and Microsoft Azure. The event will be led by John Sprunger and Gregory Fabry of West Monroe Partners.
