This year’s Moxie Awards Ceremony, which will take place on June 20th at the beautiful Park West, is sure to again be the event of the year for the Chicago tech scene.

For those of you who attended last year, there are a few new updates for this year’s show: Of the 21 awards up for nomination, four of them are for brand new categories.

New additions to the nomination list are Best Healthcare app or website, Best Overall Software Company, Best Company Culture and my personal favorite, the Best Civic App category, which will highlight the best app or website focused on solving problems through the use of open government data. (My personal favorite because I thought it would make a great addition to the awards ceremony and after I emailed my suggestion to the BuiltInChicago team, they agreed and made it happen!)

In addition to these four new categories, Maria Katris also promised a couple new changes sure to make second-time attendees happy: “We promise there will be a lot more food, and we will not close down the bar during the awards ceremony." (Via her March 27th appearance on BytesOverBagels.)

                                                                     --------

I was just a summer intern in the Chicago tech scene last year and knew literally nobody going to the event, but within 10 minutes of being in the building I was already shaking hands with the Chief Technology Officer of the City of Chicago. I met countless other Chicago tech rockstars that night, and even went out afterwards with some people from a Moxie Award-winning company! To say I had a great night would be an obvious understatement.*

For those who didn’t attend last year... I highly recommend you try to make it this year! I mean, the event was awesome, and if you didn't have pride for your city before, you definitely walked away with a lot last year. And if this random person’s opinion on the internet isn’t enough, check out this cool recap video of last year's event:
