Who is this person and why are they asking for my vote, you ask?
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tom Wright. I started my digital marketing agency two years ago in October of 2011. At that time I was working in my dad’s office, he is a State Farm Agent in Joliet, and I noticed that lots of his clients had their own small businesses. I did some research on these clients and found most of them had little to no online presence. I wanted to change this. I taught myself how to work with WordPress themes and very basic level HTML to change colors and such. My first client was the barbershop across from my dad’s office. I built website for the barbershop and they paid me back in haircuts. I knew websites were great but I also wanted to get traffic to these sites so I started playing with AdWords Express.
AdWords Express did not offer the type of targeting and customization that I was seeking so I decided to learn the whole AdWords interface and create custom Pay Per Click campaigns. My knowledge of AdWords and eventually Analytics brought me to the point where I was able to help other businesses in the Joliet area get found online. Since this time, I have become a member of 1871 and spend a good chunk of my time involved in the startup community.
This year has been a very good year in terms of advancing my knowledge of the online space as I had the privilege of taking classes at The Starter League in 1871. I learned a great deal about web design and also had an opportunity to meet some of the brightest and creative minds this city has to offer. Should I achieve this goal of obtaining the Chase Mission Main Street Grant, I plan on hiring a few people to grow my agency, and I hope those would include a few Starter League alums.
Over the past few months, I have brought a couple people on board into Red Cannonball to teach them digital marketing, social media, and how to prospect for clients. I would like to expand the staff to bring on a Business Development Manager and a couple people to manage our Pay Per Click campaigns on Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Facebook. I do have big plans for this agency and as every entrepreneur can tell you, there have been lots of highs and lots of lows. Right now, it is just pure excitement as I can tell all of the work over the past couple of years is finally falling into place.
