How to go from Soldier to Founder

The military is the best incubator for leaders, period.  For centuries military theory has been all about finding ways to get men (and now women) to rise to the occasion.  The military has been developing techniques to form leaders who can handle the most challenging situations humans can face in war.  So what happens when these leaders decide to tackle a much different mission, starting a business?

Kyle Donnelly is the founder of Club 1933, a craft beer of the month subscription service.  He came onto The Report to talk about his transition from leading a platoon in Afghanistan to leading the development of Club 1933.  Kyle’s biggest takeaway was that “logistics wins wars”, and that lesson will certainly help him with the logistical nightmare of shipping alcohol to all 50 states.  Each state has their own alcohol shipping regulations and licenses, so Kyle will rely heavily on his military experience to help him find success.

While his logistical experience in the military was more volatile than alcohol, Kyle is convinced it will help him succeed.  Kyle reflects that “nothing in the military is easy… when we would go shooting we would have to plan everything out… from transportation to the actual ammunition”.  Kyle is betting that this experience will serve him well in the less dangerous world of craft beer.
