How this Startup is Disrupting the Blogging Industry

Summertime Chicago means street festivals, baseball, patios, and food. Well, last week we had a our first glimpse of warm weather. The sun was shinning, it was at least 60 degrees, and I was in the mood for one of my favorite summer foods, a Chicago-Style Hot Dog!

A Chicago-Style Hot Dog isn't a simple dish, there's about 10 ingredients, that have to be added in a specific order. So what do I do? The same thing everyone does. I Googled the recipe.

What I found was blog post after blog post, filled with 2,000 word essays on the history of hot dogs, Chicago, and they all began with how they made the author feel. Blah Blah Blah.

Somewhere deep down, hidden in one of the posts I finally found a recipe. But not before reading all that useless fluff from the author who is clearly trying to appease the SEO gods.

Why can't there just be a super simple checklist of instructions and ingredients?

So I decided to make a checklist on Checkli. This checklist took me about 15-20 minutes to make, publish, and share. I shared it on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and a few other sites.

Here's the checklist:

In the checklist I paid my respect to the king of hot dogs in Chicago, Vienna Beef, and wouldn't ya know, they retweeted it, and that led to a dozen or so more retweets and likes.

So, instead of wasting 4-5 hours making a tradition blog post I spent 15-20 minutes making a checklist that was way more valuable.

Why was this Checklist more valuable?

  • It has my personal branding on it. So when it goes viral, I get the traffic!
  • It's interactive. Anyone can save the checklist and complete those tasks at the grocery store, or why their making their hot dog.
  • It's super mobile-friendly
  • I can link to my site
  • The checklist is easy to share and SEO-friendly
  • It only took me 15 - 20 minutes to create!

Checkli has become a real priority for content marketers. You can reach a whole new audience of people looking for only checklists or people who want to cut to the chase and not read the common fluff we have to skim through at the beginning of most blog posts. Lists on Checkli are exciting quick wins that make clients super happy and thrilled about your work.

But, don't limit your imagination to just recipes. Million of people search google for different types of Checklist. Whether they're moving, learning something new, working, or traveling.

Humans use checklists for just about everything we do because “the volume and complexity of what we know has exceeded our individual ability to deliver its benefits correctly, safely, or reliably.”

So we're clear, I'm not telling you to stop blogging. I'm telling you that the next time you have an amazing content idea. Do the research and share your content in a blog post, infographic, SlideShare, video, podcast...and of course make a checklist and share it on Checkli, your website, and favorite social media sites.

Thanks for reading, and good luck!
