Cabs aren’t fun and Uber took all of my money so I’m jazzed about SideCar coming to Chicago. It’s an awesome service that connects every day drivers to every day people.

SideCar started in SF and has quickly grown into 9 other markets: LA, Seattle, Austin, Philly, Boston, Brooklyn and Chicago. In SF alone, SideCar has matched over 200k happy rides!

SideCar = Ridesharing. It’s a concept as old as the automobile itself, where friends and neighbors help one another get around the city. SideCar is basically a carpooling technology that’s purpose is to help alleviate traffic congestion, lessen carbon footprints and bring gas and parking demands down.

Chicago’s City Manager Lisa Frame (yes, the chick behind #SOYEAHDUH) calls their drivers “a collective of AWESOME people willing to share their empty seats!” All rides have a pickup and drop off location, which is sent off to the closest driver heading in your direction. When the ride is finished the rider then uses the app to donate what they feel the ride was worth. (Yes, it’s completely cashless and donation only.)

Whether you’re communing to work, Whole Foods, or making your way home from Big Star, SideCar can take you there and you just might make a friend out of it.

“Our driver community is super friendly. I want to be best friends with all of them and our riders feel the same way,” says Frame. “Our drivers are entrepreneurs, reporters, traders, radio hosts – you name it! Diversity and friendliness are truly the very fibers that holds SideCar together.”

Ready to rideshare? All you need to do is download the app and create an account. It’s easy and it’s safe. All drivers undergo a criminal and driving 10-step vetted process.

Want to become a driver? Simply apply at Side.cr and you’ll go through SideCar University. It’s a 10-step vetted process before you’re approved; including background checks, criminal checks, video interviews, safety training and app education. After that, you’ll be able to make money for going places you were already planning on going.
