CHICAGO, IL— Several dozen of Illinois’ best and brightest high school students listened, laughed, and were inspired by sage advice about entrepreneurship from an alumnus of their school, Sam Yagan.

Yagan, who graduated in 1995 from the Illinois Math and Science Academy (IMSA), went on to study mathematics at Harvard. While there, he and two classmates combined their smarts and diverse skills set to found, build, and sell, the companies Sparknotes and OKcupid for millions of dollars. In 2011, OKcupid was purchased by Match and, in 2012, the dating site giant installed Yagan as its new CEO.

Five IMSA students give reactions about what they learned from Yagan’s list of tips for budding young entrepreneurs. Blackline Review was there to capture lighter moments of Yagan for those who never knew that this high achiever had a charming sense of humor.
