I ran across this petition, and signed it. I hope you will too! 6 US states have proposed legislation to make computer science count towards high school math and science graduation requirements.
I am an avid supporter of more math and science for kids. Even at the National World War Two Museum where I am a board member, we actively work to offer up current educational programs on math and science.
This petition will do little to help us today. But, it will help us ten years from today. I really believe we have something in Chicago. Having more kids that understand how to code on computers will help everyone take it to the next level.
It takes 20 years to build a self sustaining ecosystem. It takes 30 years to see disruptive change cycle through a society. If the internet went mainstream in 1995, and the Chicago ecosystem kickstarted in 2005- 2025 is a great target date for everything to come together. 14 year olds learning to code today will be 24 then.
Let's think big.
