Chicago, IL – May 23, 2013  — Project Travel, an online peer-funding organization offering a new way to finance educational travel, announced the launch of its public website launch today. Previously operating in private beta, the technology platform enables students and program participants to mobilize their community to raise money and support for study, intern, volunteer, teach, service-learning, au pair and faculty led programs.

Project Travel addresses a massive problem that many students and program participants face: financial aid and scholarships simply aren’t enough. The organization empowers would-be travelers to make educational travel possible, offering an intuitive new solution that leverages both technology and social connections.

“We help students take an active role in affording their program when financial aid and scholarships aren’t enough,” said Jennifer Thomas, Project Travel Founder & CEO. “Financial barriers should not block a motivated person from having an educational travel experience.”

Project Travel partners with academic institutions, non-profit and third-party program providers to help more students and program participants go abroad, while directly advising them on how to successfully peer-fund and offering online international education resources. The fundraising platform launched its private beta in January 2013 and has been honing the online experience for travelers in preparation for its public launch. Taking advantage of current web design trends and online crowd-funding best practices, the platform offers a user-friendly way for Project Starters to connect with potential donors and supporters.

“Our private beta testing was all about validating the model and honing the online experience for travelers,” said Thomas. “Launching public positions us to continue growing our partnerships with industry leaders and enable even more program participants to reach their educational travel goals.”
