Chicago is increasingly becoming a hub for startups in the United States, and Mayor Rahm Emmanuel has encouraged the development of new programs to assist technological entrepreneurs, as well as encourage entrepreneurs across the country to call Chicago their new home. One such program is the second annual "ThinkChicago: Lollapalooza" from July 31-August 3, an event for 125 college entrepreneurs and technology whizzes from across the country to meet technology experts in Chicago. Throwing in free passes and backstage tours of Lollapalooza probably isn’t a bad draw either; it definitely gives Chicago something to brag about.

According to the ThinkChicago website, “Chicago is a place where young entrepreneurs grow big ideas, transform industries and shape technology and business as we know it. Attendees of ThinkChicago will have the opportunity to attend company career fairs, meet Chicago-based businesses, and participate in panels featuring Mayor Emanuel, industry leaders, and Chicago-based technologists.”

The application for the program opened just last week, and is looking for the best and the brightest around the nation to apply to learn a little bit more about the Chicago technology scene. But not only is this event a networking opportunity for the students, it is also a chance for people behind the scenes of Chicago’s current startups to meet future employees or future fellow entrepreneurs. Last year’s event offered a career fair by 1871 and local startups, panels by well-known Chicago entrepreneurs, and mock interviews with Chicago companies.

However, it's obvious from the application that Mayor Emmanuel is not just looking for people who want to attend Lollapalooza for free; the applicants he is looking for are students who want to give back to the city of Chicago, and have the skills to make their ideas happen. For those who are interested in applying, check out the application questions below and leave your thoughts and ideas about them in the comments section!

Discuss how your academic honors, leadership experience, extracurricular activities, or professional involvement demonstrate a commitment to technology and innovation.

Please briefly describe a potential tech solution or strategy that Mayor Emanuel could adopt to improve the quality of life for Chicagoans.
