We consider him a man of many hats, a renaissance man, if you will. He just refers to himself as a chaotic entrepreneur. Whatever you call him, there's no denying his vast professional experience.

Alex Hodgkin is an entrepreneur-in-residence at the Polsky Center, part of the Booth School of Business. His expertise lies in financial entrepreneurship but his career trajectory has taken him from the trenches of i-banking to founding a startup to becoming a student and finally, on to entrepreneurship. His professional background has made him incredibly successful in his position at the Polsky Center where he has created a search-fund ecosystem – entrepreneurship through acquisition – for Booth students Here's a quick preview of what he's learned on his journey:

  • Oftentimes the basis of success stems from having a strong network and relationship-building skills

  • Not all entrepreneurs excel at starting a company from scratch. For many, success comes from acquiring already existing companies that can benefit from new leadership and strategic vision

  • Having a high-risk tolerance and flexibility serves prospective search-fund candidates well
