Navigating the tech community as a recent graduate can be a daunting task.  With so many skill sets in a frequently changing environment, figuring out which direction to take your career can seem overwhelming.

In the past, newcomers to the scene would go into Testing and Quality Assurance.  They would gradually teach themselves coding and gain experience to move up the ladder.  However, with the growing developments of the global community and the accessibility of working remotely, most of these roles have been off-sourced abroad.

Thankfully, the technology is always changing and evolving.  Companies are racing to stay current and to get their information out on the web.  Two excellent roles that we are seeing a lot of clients recruit for at the entry level are SharePoint and Web Developers.

As organizations are expanding, employers are looking for candidates with knowledge in SharePoint to help their company grow.  Collaborative efforts are vital to a company’s success and SharePoint makes it happen by offering the platform to share and work as a team.

Web Development continues to be in demand, both front end (web design) and back end (.Net, coding).  In the past month, our firm placed a number of consultants in this arena alone.  Whether the company is new or looking for a new look, there is a constant need for consultants who can understand the values and culture of the organization to help create a positive user experience for their customers.   From there, building up knowledge in Flash and Flex Development will help in enhancing your value-add to an agency.

One of the roles we see staying in the United States is Project Management.  Employers are looking for qualified consultants who can effectively lead, communicate with, and motivate their team.  Starting out as a Business Analyst is a good way to begin learning about the intricacies of the role as you start your career path.

It’s no secret that communication is an essential part of creating a successful organization.  Contributing to a company’s vision through SharePoint, Web Development and Business Analysis is a great start to building your career.

We’ll continue to blog about tech jobs, so stay tuned to find out more about growing positions and tips on what you should get into for your next field of experience.
