Sometimes a professional journey isn’t just a metaphor. In some cases it’s a literal one that shapes the future of your entire life. Ted Garnett, Founder and Principal of Garnett Architects, is living proof of this. He took a winding, and at times, uncertain & un-glamorous journey across the globe before setting up shop in Chicago. Along the way he learned resilience, trust and the importance of being a generalist in an increasingly specialized ACE (architecture, construction & engineering) industry. Today he let’s us in on a few of the more important lessons from his travels:

  • At the end of the day, you are the sum of all your experiences

  • A variety of experiences shapes a well-rounded person who is exceptionally suited to be a generalist

  • Regardless of the obstacles you may face, and there will surely be obstacles, success is always an option
