WalkJogRun.net recently started a podcast.  It has given us variety in our blogging and the ability to reach new customers through the iTunes store.  In this blog we discuss how podcasting has helped our website and how we got started with it.

How has a podcast channel helped promote the website?

Since launching the podcast channel in the iTunes store, WalkJogRun has gained 62 subscribers in about a month.  We have taken the RSS feed from the blog we post the podcast, and set it up to automatically filter into iTunes.  We linked our RSS feed with FeedBurner in order to get more details about where the traffic is coming from.  The overall response has been positive for the podcast.  Previously all of WalkJogRun’s posts have been text-based from the blog.

Why should I create a company podcast?

Adding audio has allowed us to have a little bit of flexibility and diversity.  It allows us to get every detail possible in an interview or discussion since it is in audio format.  People are able to download the podcast and listen to it on their iPod or iPhone wherever they are.  For the busy person unable to read our blog every week, it gives them the option to take the podcast with them wherever they go.  If you have a topic your company wants to discuss, posting to the iTunes store will get views as well as some curiosity about your company.  Many companies create podcast channels with instructions and tutorials regarding their product (if applicable).

Have you had success creating a company podcast?  What different marketing techniques have you used to promote it and generate new subscribers?  The WalkJogRun podcast is available here.
