Why Waiting Till Your Software Product Is Perfect Can Be a Bad Idea

You are working hard on your software solution and postponing final release every now and again. You sharpen details, adjust design elements, do fine-tuning and add new small features which should make the product even more user-friendly.

But will it work? Have you ever thought that a customer can simply not notice a feature on which you spent a sufficient amount of time and effort? Is this nominal feature that important?

At the same time your client who regularly pays for the subscription and whom you promised long ago to release a new version, is waiting patiently (or not) to finally get access to this new version of the product.

Ask yourself, what is more important for a client:

  • to get a high-quality version without delay but also without bells and whistles,

or

  • to get a version of the product, honed to the smallest detail, with features which are not critical?

While waiting till your product is perfect, you are losing time and the trust of customers. You lag behind competitors who release one product version after another. Finally, you release your product in a perfect version, provide it to clients… and it turns out that products with similar functional attributes are already on the market, while your customers seem to not pay any attention to your super cool details.

The way out is to follow the tips:

1) Working on a product version, concentrate your development team efforts on the most important functional features;

2) As soon as all the planned features are developed and implemented, quality assurance and testing professionals should be involved;

3) After all the bugs are fixed, give access to the product to your clients, so that they can finally take advantage of this long-awaited version;

4) Gather customer feedback on the new version of the software;

5)  Make the required changes in the current version if they:

  • are critical

or

  • will not take much time;

6) Take into account the wishes of your customers and do your best to implement them into future releases of the product.
