Many amazing tech women over the past year have enjoyed mingling over lunch at the "Ladies Who Lunch" gatherings successfully pioneered by Sharon Schneider of MoxieJean. As she moves out of 1871, we are determined to keep her event alive for the tech women of Chicago. In a partnership with the Ms.Tech Group, Daniela Bolzmann will be taking over Sharon's reigns and continuing the "Ladies Who Lunch" gatherings.

Better than a Google Internship

Maybe it was just a coincidence, but three days before I started my internship with both Dashfire, the movie The Internship was released. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson land internships at Google after losing their jobs as watch salesmen; hilarity ensues. Hilarity might be a strong word (I’d give the movie a B: funny but not hysterical). I left the theater wondering what the next ten weeks would hold.

Sensing the incessant rush of the Windy city, it doesn’t take much to recognize that Chicago is becoming new US high-tech startup hub.

Let’s face it, rejection sucks. And getting rejected from TechStars, after making it to the final round of TechStars interviews REALLY sucks.

We were rejected two years ago and that ensuing 2 years gave us the time to really understand our business so that when we finally did get in - I think we're able to get orders of magnitude more value out of the program than if we'd gotten in the first try. Seriously, it can often be a blessing in disguise.

Great story Erik, thanks for sharing. SpotHero had a similar story and they have nothing but great things to say about TechStars. Look forward to seeing SimpleRelevance do great things. Congrats on the fundraising! Would love to read a blog post about your tips for fundraising.

With the exception of those nasty gun designs (yin to the yang, snake in the garden, humankind's collective Achille's heel, party crashers...), there is nothing I don't like about 3D printing. It's just such a hoot to create an object from 2D photographs!

Here's a short video of artist Tom Burtonwood of the 3D Printer Experience over on Clark street—which offers workshops—clicking away on the steps of the Art Institute. What a fabulous mash up of the tourist snapshot and the souvenir...

Thanks so much for sharing ModelBox 3D! I'm actually from Chicago and have been in LA for a few years now. I miss the city! I have a few other models on my plate right now but I'll try and make the art institute lions :] They would work perfectly, good call!!

J. Ginsburg

Hi Laura! The ModelBox is such fun - a lovely mash-up of a kind of frozen flip book and a 3D print. There's something magical about it.
