CHICAGO, IL— Eight women founders, based at 1871, today helped Mayor Rahm Emanuel kick off the city's "Women Who Launch" monthly luncheon series at City Hall.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel visited the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Tuesday, Oct. 2 to prove to Computer Science and Engineering students that Chicago's tech sphere is growing -- and growing fast!

“I want you (students) to — rather than come up to Chicago, get to O’Hare and fly out — stay," the mayor said. "And I want you to see the city of Chicago as your opportunity and your future.”

Among yesterday’s many high-profile proceedings in the Chicago City Council meeting there was a very big win for Chicago’s future in technology. Mayor Rahm Emmanuel appointed Chief Data Officer Brett Goldstein to be the Commissioner of the City of Chicago Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT), and we’re pleased to announce that City Council approved his appointment.
