We are looking for a developer to join our growing Data Services team. You will manage, optimize, and scale database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will thrive in our fast-paced, agile environment and contribute to a collaborative setting. He or she should understand the importance of database integrity in terms of both efficiency and security. You must be passionate about automation, testing, and ensuring the quality and timely delivery of your work. Database Administrators are very hands-on with cutting edge technologies including AWS Cloud (Redshift, RDS, EMR, DynamoDB) and Neo4j (Graph Database).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Operational support - execute database changes, participate in release and maintenance events, respond for pages triggered by monitoring
  • Application support - participate with scrum teams to determine architecture, data models, best practices, and optimal query patterns
  • Research and POC support including building and launching new Database solutions
  • Planning and configuration - pro-actively manage database instances to accommodate for growth and scale
  • System Optimization - monitor and optimize system performance, schema change management, query analysis, authoring tools for databases automated deployment and management in cloud.
  • Availability - ensure maximum uptime and implement proper safeguards for backup, replication, and recovery
  • Support database, development, and DevOps teams with rotating on-call schedule.
  • Security - define and implement user privileges and data access controls
  • Evangelism - help engineers efficiently utilize the database using best practices
  • Willing to research and take on new data technologies to meet business requirements, including Amazon Web Services offerings, NoSQL technologies, graph database technologies, etc

Requirements and Preferred Skills

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years managing enterprise-level transactional databases
  • Experience with BASH, Ruby, Python or other scripting languages
  • Complex SQL query writing and performance optimization
  • Practical experience with Unix environments, understanding of Unix performance and system capacity metrics
  • Experience with advanced SQL database concepts including replication solutions, trigger based and streaming, high availability
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services technologies
  • Strong attention to detail, good communications skills, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to be self motivated and deliver projects on time with minimal supervision
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Our Tech Stack

At PowerReviews we use lots of open source software and use Amazon Web Services (almost) exclusively. Our current stack consists of Linux, Java, Tomcat, Nginx, PostgreSQL, MySQL, ElasticSearch, React.js, Docker, and some Ruby on Rails. In AWS we make use of EC2, DynamoDB, RDS, Redshift, Elastic Beanstalk, S3, Elasticache, (both Redis and Memcached), Elastic Map Reduce, and Cloudfront. Other stuff we use includes Sumologic, Datadog, Selenium, and Packer.
