Responsible for developing and implementing protein commodity and supply chain strategies that reduce total landed costs while providing the highest levels of product quality and service to each facility. Primary activities include building commodity expertise, developing commodity strategies, finding and managing suppliers, working with local buying teams to implement strategies, and working with our R&D team to refine product specifications and measure product quality. The commodity manager reports directly to the Director of Food Procurement.
Develop Commodity Strategies
- Develop comprehensive, national commodity strategies for proteins that balance cost, quality and service levels to achieve overall company objectives
- Become Home Chef’s subject matter expert in protein commodities and leverage knowledge across all responsibilities areas
- Continuously work with Home Chef R&D and Fulfillment Teams, Suppliers, and colleagues in food procurement to identify opportunities to improve Supply Chain
Implementation of Commodity Strategies
- Manage the formal strategic sourcing process, from spend analysis through contract implementation
- Work with R&D and Fulfillment functions at Home Chef throughout the sourcing process to ensure product meets business objectives
- Support local purchasing teams on new product launches, cost reductions, quality enhancements, food safety improvements, and supplier performance management
Supplier Management
- Research, identify, evaluate and develop new suppliers to meet company strategies and production requirements. Drive supply base rationalization initiatives when necessary.
- Work with Procurement Excellence to team to measure existing supplier performance and work directly with suppliers to continuously improve their performance across cost, quality and service levels
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- 3-5 years of experience in procurement
- Experience buying meat and seafood strongly preferred
- Strong analytical skills, ability to evaluate data and make strategic decisions based on analysis
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build rapport at all levels
- Proven project management skills
