About Us:

Braintree builds products that make payments easier—so easy that they fade into the background, making entirely new kinds of interactions possible. Interactions like seamlessly paying for your ride share -- or the condo you rented this weekend -- without presenting a card or pressing a button, or buying a lamp on Pinterest...right from Pinterest. The Braintree full-stack payment platform lets companies build their own experiences and then scale their businesses around the globe. We're known for our technology but we're also known for our support, with internal risk and underwriting, account management and technical support teams who ensure a frictionless payments experience.

Acquired by PayPal in 2013, Braintree is now in an even greater position to change the way people pay. Headquartered in Chicago, Braintree has offices in San Francisco, New York, Sydney, London with employees stationed around the world.

Database Engineer:

Postgres sits at the core of everything we do. Over the past four years, our dataset size has increased by several orders of magnitude. We’re a write-heavy database shop, which brings interesting and atypical scaling challenges. We are laser-focused on performance and latency, and every millisecond counts.

We seek a strong engineer to help grow and scale our database clusters.

Responsibilities:

  • 2+ years experience working with databases and infrastructure.  If you don’t have the experience, you do have the intellectual curiosity and hunger to learn.

  • Tune our database systems for simplicity and performance

  • Curate our database topology and our high availability tools

  • Help the products team use our databases more efficiently and effectively

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in cluster design

  • Knowledge of sharding and its tradeoffs.

  • Knowledge of and experience in pragmatic backup strategies

  • You’ve done useful monitoring: you know what to monitor in a highly available database cluster. You might even have opinions about what monitoring you consider useful.

  • Familiarity with the internals of popular ORMs and how to help developers use them efficiently.

  • An “all hands on deck” mentality - the ability to solve a problem when it happens, not hours or days later.

  • Bonus points: familiarity and experience with walsender.c.

We value our people...

-Two paid conference trips annually

-Open Dev Day twice a month

-Catered lunches daily

-Commuter reimbursement program
