Sprout Social is looking for an outstanding Design Developer to join our growing team. The Design team works tirelessly to create the entire experience that is Sprout Social: web platform, mobile apps, and all sales and marketing efforts. We're a tight knit group that proudly does 100% of our design work in-house, right here in our downtown Chicago headquarters.

What’s a Design Developer? Though a design role at heart, Design Development at Sprout is a technical discipline, requiring expert-level HTML/CSS skills and strong Javascript fundamentals. Design Developers use code to advocate for users, ensuring guidelines for usability, accessibility, and aesthetics are met at the component level. Design Developers maintain our pattern libraries and design system and work side-by-side with engineers and product designers to deliver features for our desktop web applications.

The Design Development team crafts the user interface for software that is used by more than 19,000 brands around the world. Companies like Dropbox, Zendesk, Fender, Zipcar and Evernote rely on Sprout to create stronger relationships with their customers through social media.

Responsibilities

• Deliver prototypes and production-ready user interfaces with intuitive design and well structured code
• Work collaboratively in an agile team to deliver features and holistically with Design to document patterns for our design system
• Collaborate effectively and efficiently with your immediate and extended teams such as engineering, UX and brand design, and sales and marketing
• Contribute to testing, standardization, refactoring, and general improvement of our products and processes
• Committed to professional growth and maintaining high standards

Desired Skills & Experience

• An eye for great design, typography, and composition
• Strong experience writing clean, semantic, accessible HTML
• Strong experience writing CSS, with an emphasis on modularity and reuse
• Working knowledge of Javascript/jQuery
• Ability to test in multiple browsers and platforms
• Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite or Sketch but capable of designing 'in browser’
• Strong communication skills and good documentation habits
• Strong work ethic and curiosity
• Experience with React, Git, and node-based task runners like Gulp or Grunt a major plus
• Experience developing design systems, pattern libraries or style guides is ideal
