Director of Business Development
Narrative Science is the leader in advanced natural language generation (Advanced NLG) for the enterprise. Quill, its Advanced NLG platform, learns and writes like a person, automatically transforming data into Intelligent Narratives—insightful, conversational communications full of audience-relevant information that provide complete transparency into how analytic decisions are made.
Narrative Science is currently seeking a talented Director of Business Development to join our Chicago office. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this individual will lead our efforts to identify and execute successful partnerships with technology companies that result in embedded Narrative applications to enhance our partners’ technology offerings. Additionally, this person will play a vital role in taking Narrative Science to the next level by creating a broader partnership strategy and designing the operational infrastructure required to support our growth aspirations. The successful candidate will have approximately 7 to 10 years of experience in Enterprise Software business development, developing partnership strategies, evaluating potential partners, driving go-to-market activities, and nurturing such relationships in the Enterprise Software space.
Responsibilities
Work with key stakeholders across Narrative Science to develop the broader strategic framework for integrating Quill into the broader Technology ecosystem, including:
Vision, long term definition of success, and outline the steps required to reach the vision
Articulated interdependencies between sales, marketing and product organizations to set up business development for enduring success
New partner concepts and business models with factors such as market segmentation, value proposition development, product positioning, pricing strategy, etc.
Develop, refine and own the execution of win-win partner programs, sales processes, go-to-market strategies, and business development initiatives that drive revenue growth and market expansion as well as to grow existing partnerships
Identify, prioritize, and develop specific partner opportunities which are optimized for exceptional revenue growth
Initiate and complete proposals, presentations, negotiations, establishment of terms and conditions for a variety of transaction / arrangement types including OEM licensing and technology partnerships
Manage communication with all potential partners and represent Narrative Science in meetings with staff and senior executives from other companies; create strategic roadmap for each partner to develop the relationships and increase revenues
Develop performance measurement metrics including revenue, profits, key milestones, forecasting, etc.; keep executive leadership team informed on status and performance through regular communications, forecasts and reports
Provide insight on partners’ needs to internal teams on a regular basis; represent their views, requirements, and experience throughout the organization
Coordinate cross-functional partner execution with internal and partner stakeholders across product management, engineering, sales, marketing, finance, legal, and professional services
Requirements
7 to 10+ years of experience in Enterprise Software business development. Experience in developing partnerships with senior leadership at Technology companies that have generated significant revenue through sell-with and sell-through models
Operates well in a fast-paced, ambiguous entrepreneurial environment that is rapidly evolving; connects strategic thinking and rigorous tactical execution to drive implementation and results
Resourceful with excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
Detail-oriented and thorough with excellent time management and planning skills
Exceptional at verbal, written, and interpersonal communication; must be able to articulate complex concepts simply and concisely
Diligent at measuring and communicating progress towards the plan, identifying roadblocks and coming up with appropriate resolutions
Bachelor’s degree
Ability to travel up to 10-25% of the time
