 The Strategy and Business Development Director will be responsible for leading major business development initiatives for Groupon Getaways (the Groupon travel line of business). Responsibilities will include working with the Vice President and General Manager on the formulation and execution of a multi-year strategy for the travel line of business.  The Director in this role will be responsible for negotiating strategic agreements with travel companies, demand sources, and technology suppliers.

Essential Areas of Responsibility:

  • Work with the General Manager of the Getaways business unit on a multi-year strategy
  • Negotiate strategic partnerships with various travel and technology companies.
  • Collaborate with Product Development and Engineering in order to manage priorities, timelines and delivery expectations.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Management and Finance in order to ramp revenue while maintaining Getaways yields.

Other Essential Job Functions (Internal):

  • Reading documents, detailed work, problem solving, math skills, reasoning skills, oral communication, written communication, sales representative contact, ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to merchants and other employees, handle multiple concurrent tasks Monitor and align rep activities on sales volume, deal quality, and pipeline management
  • Regularly send emails using keyboard, sit or stand at desk for 8 hours per day, work in an open environment

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • 10+ Years Relevant Experience. 3-5 years with an online travel distribution company, such as an Online Travel Agency, GDS, travel supplier, or related technology company.
  • 5+ Years of complex contract negotiation and new business development.
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Comfort presenting to Senior Leadership
  • Extreme comfort in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
  • Analytical and able to make data-driven decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills - able to multi task, prioritize and coordinate resources
  • Demonstrated levels of dedication and ownership required to succeed at start-up speed
  • Ability to coordinate effectively across multiple functional areas with competing priorities and deadlines
