Consisting of marketing managers, designers, writers, corporate communications professionals, digital strategists, behavioral scientists, and more, this collaborative, global team serves our marketing needs across our business. The team works globally to maintain a consistent brand experience everywhere Morningstar serves investors.The Role: Morningstar, Inc., a leading global provider of independent investment research, is looking for an innovative and visionary leader to serve as a Director of Technology. This position reports directly to the Head of Technology for Individual and Workplace products and will work closely with the Marketing and Communications team. This person will take responsibility for the overall planning, execution, and success of delivering exceptional digital technology to represent Morningstar and share our message with the world. Leveraging our core technology platforms, this role will work with other key tech leaders to continue evolving leading engineering practices and influence these ideas through solid design decisions, processes, and tools across the broader engineering organization.
Responsibilities:
- Collaboratively define, implement, and manage a comprehensive global technology strategy for Morningstar’s marketing and brand strategy.
- Work closely with product leaders on business’ strategic planning process, aligning your technology vision and strategy with product and business direction, customer service strategy, growth strategies, and talent strategies.
- Convert strategic plans into actionable programs and projects.
- Work closely with product management and digital team to create, implement and refine technology solutions for our client-facing marketing experiences.
- Understand critical digital marketing techniques enabling experimentation, segmentation, and targeting.
- Provide essential technology services to the business, including system monitoring, technical response, and client-ready technical documentation.
- Collaborate with corporate system security team on developing, reviewing, certifying, and communicating all data integrity policies and procedures.
- Work closely with marketing and product technology organizations to implement standards, processes, and governance best practices that work across our businesses and global presence.
- Provide visionary technology leadership, keeping abreast of new developments in all areas of technology, with an emphasis on mobile, knowledge management, and data analytics.
- Work closely with technology leadership, product leaders, and stakeholders to create and promote a culture and practice of company-wide technology innovation.
- Work closely with organization to identify, attract, and retain talent for both the business and the company as a whole.
- Develop employees through training, encouraging experimentation and risk taking, supporting teams in cross-functional training, and information sharing.
- Promote an overall culture of technology excellence and innovation.
- Proactively communicate technology vision and strategy to clients and employees.
- Promote collaboration for the marketing technology organization across multiple continents and offices.
- Be a key representative of the Morningstar technology for clients, industry events, conferences, open source initiatives, etc.
Requirements:
- Exceptional leadership skills with 5+ years of experience of managing software development and quality teams, and a prior history of hands-on software development roles.
- Pragmatist who is bold, willing to think big, and encourage teams to act decisively.
- Strong background in agile software techniques, continuous delivery, and automation.
- Experience in building, testing, deploying, and iterating using rigorous DevOps continuous delivery and deployment of mobile and Web-based products.
- Translate a passion for technology and our business into clear, persuasive arguments, both written and spoken.
- Comfortable working with a disparate and diverse technology team across multiple locations.
- Experience leveraging user analytics platforms such as Adobe Analytics, SiteCatalyst, Google Analytics.
- Experience deploying data-driven experimental and personalization software, such as Adobe Target.
- Proven experience leading teams leveraging the latest in content management systems, ideally Adobe Experience Manager.
- Experience Integrating Adobe Experience Manager with Marketing Automation Systems, such as Eloqua.
- Strong experience with browser-based technology, having proven experience with the latest versions of CSS, HTML, and JavaScript, leveraging template languages and pre-processors such as Handlebars and SASS.
- Interaction experience leveraging rich JavaScript application frameworks such as Backbone, Ember, and Angular.
- Experience working closely with product managers, design, sales, and marketing on the delivery of large digital brands.
- Industry experience a plus but not required.
- Bachelor`s degree in the sciences, engineering, or computer science.
