Located downtown Chicago, Gamut is a start-up operation being launched by Grainger.  The company is developing an innovative, new e-commerce platform that will leverage technology, structured data, and customer insights to launch a successful new business. Position Description

The eCommerce Editor provides copy editing for product content on an innovative ecommerce platform. Working with external writers, this individual plays a key role in merchandising products and presenting necessary information to customers clearly, concisely, and accurately. He or she will also serve as a project manager, working with content management systems to ensure all deadlines and quality standards are met. Additionally, he or she helps the team develop, maintain, and adhere to standard and style guidelines and actively develops and improves processes for content creation.

 

  • Edit digital product copy to meet publishing standards and check that it augments and complements other elements of the ecommerce platform, including photography, CGI, and site structure, to help customers navigate our varied assortment and make fast, confident purchase decisions
  • Manage projects to ensure all deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Coordinate editorial staff, including external writers and editors, and support Copy Leader in various project-management tasks as needed
  • Verify all copy statements are supported by research, data, or Merchandising guidance and are documented appropriately
  • Promote continuous development of editorial guidelines and processes to increase efficiency and quality
  • Develop new procedures for content creation or content auditing to meet business needs and provide solutions for problems or obstacles
  • Be able to understand and translate technical product data into useful customer-focused copy
  • Edit informational, marketing, and UX copy as needed
  • Lead special projects as needed

     


Position Requirements:

Minimum of 5-7 years copy writing and editor experience required

  • Attention to detail
  • Thorough understanding of technical product information and feature-benefit copy principles
  • Thorough understanding of rules of grammar and punctuation
  • Working knowledge of ecommerce, direct marketing, catalog, or similar industry
  • Strong prioritization and project management skills
  • Working knowledge of keyword research and basic SEO principles
  • Must be able to quickly ascertain customer and business requirements to ensure correct tone, approach, etc.
  • Seen as a subject matter expert
  • Prior experience in providing feedback, mentoring copywriters, and providing direction to improve work products and assist others in development of their skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work in deadline-driven environment and handle multiple (often conflicting) priorities at the same time
  • Customer focused
  • Strong influencing skills
  • Strong judgment and decision making skills
