As a Front End Engineer, you will help us mold our evolving client-side technology and will be involved in all phases of the software lifecycle, from specification to design, coding, and deployment.

Key Accountabilities

• Create modern web applications and UI components using Javascript, CSS and HTML5 (both with and without frameworks)
• Be responsible for the quality of your code with thoughtful design, unit testing and automated functional testing
• Participate in and contribute to peer code reviews
• Write well-documented, modular code that can be changed easily in response to varying requirements

Requirements

• A strong devotion to Javascript
• An appreciation for well-structured, semantic HTML markup
• The ability to craft CSS that is as beautiful in code as it is on screen
• A desire to learn (and teach us) modern front-end trends, tricks, techniques, patterns, and hacks
• Experience in integrating with REST APIs
• Experience implementing responsive and mobile-optimized design in sites from scratch
• Experience tracking down cross-browser compatibility issues, including IE bugs
• Commitment to create great code design and an eye for usability issues
• Strong attention to detail, good communications skills, and a positive attitude

Preferred Skills

• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Familiarity with Javascript frameworks (ReactJS, Backbone, Angular)
• Experience with CSS pre-processors such as SASS or LESS.
• Experience with front-end dependency managers such as WebPack, Browserify, or RequireJS
• Experience working in a team-based coding environment and source control software such as Git or SVN.
• Server-side Javascript development (Node, etc.)
• Experience with server-side languages, such as Java, Ruby, PHP, or Python
• Comfortable working in a Mac and Unix environment

Our Tech Stack

At PowerReviews we use lots of open source software and use Amazon Web Services (almost) exclusively. Our current stack consists of Linux, Java, Jenkins, Tomcat, Nginx, PostgreSQL, MySQL, ElasticSearch, React.js, Docker, and some Ruby on Rails. In AWS we make use of EC2, DynamoDB, RDS, Redshift, Elastic Beanstalk, S3, Elasticache, (both Redis and Memcached), Elastic Map Reduce, and Cloudfront. Other stuff we use includes Sumologic, Datadog, Selenium, and Packer.
