We are currently seeking a Head of Merchandising (Groupon Local, North America) to join our Executive Sales Demand team.  They will be the key business leader responsible for building and developing a high-performing team of merchandising managers focused on meeting the needs of our customers, and driving the revenue growth of Groupon’s $2B+ local marketplace.  

 

Description:

The role will require a dynamic individual who is comfortable working with large volumes of data, can draw insight quickly and make decisions rapidly, has incredible problem solving skills, and the ability to influence change and manage across multiple departments and conflicting priorities. 

Their impact will span the following:

  • Leading the North American Merchandising team’s strategic planning process, and ensuring that the team is on track to achieve its goals throughout the year
  • Owning major strategic initiatives that will have visibility throughout the North American Local business

The successful candidate will report to our Vice President of Inventory Management and Merchandising and lead a team of fifteen-plus people. Opportunity to progress into more senior roles is boundless.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage a team responsible for online merchandising of all categories (restaurants, spas, leisure/activities, services, shopping) in Groupon’s local marketplace
  • Own the analysis and optimization of merchandising from all channels, including mobile, web and email
  • Develop and manage merchandising, planning and operations calendars and associated deadlines
  • Lead the top down assortment planning process
  • Determine staple and perpetual category mix strategies
  • Analyze historical data to understand trends, seasonality and prevent market saturation
  • Develop promotions, seasonal campaigns and mark down cycles based on performance
  • Create product groupings and other essential merchandising elements (e.g., cross-sells, upsells, etc.) to drive conversion
  • Optimize and project-manage efforts with the Affiliate Marketing team, On-line Marketing Team, Social, P.R., Events/Brand Marketing, etc.
  • Monitor industry and competitive trends to strengthen overall business position
  • Drive operational efficiencies within the merchandising organization 
  • Provide support to Sales & Operations in handling urgent and time sensitive issues
  • Accurately communicate issues and plans with the senior management team as needed
  • Lead a team of 15+ Merchandising Managers

 

 

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in Merchandise Strategy management; e-commerce strongly preferred
  • Understands best practices around structuring a merchandising organization and has experience implementing those practices
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills with experience in merchandising financials and profitability management; detail-orientated, thorough and organized
  • Proven leader who delivers results and can help others drive to results
  • Extreme comfort with ever changing, innovative environments
  • Ability to solve problems and evidence of scaling systems across distributed teams in an evolving organization
  • MBA preferred, not required.  If no MBA, undergraduate degree in business, engineering or economics preferred from top tier institution
  • Strong analytic proficiency – Tableau, Microstrategy and SQL knowledge is a plus
