The Team:

The Braintree Platform and Infrastructure teams builds and operate the infrastructure that keeps Braintree online and operating at scale. We manage both physical and cloud infrastructure, the application platforms our engineering teams build on, and the connectivity to our partners and our customers.

 

The Role:

The Head of Platform Engineering and Infrastructure is responsible for leading a team of 50+ engineers focused on all things related to our world-class payments and processing platform serving a global 24x7 client base. We pride ourselves in operating a platform that supports marquee customers such as Uber, Dropbox, Github, and Facebook. We realize that continuing to grow and scale and innovate across many different disciplines is one of our key competitive advantages. As a result, this is an extremely visible, highly critical technology and leadership role reporting directly to Braintree’s Chief Technology Officer.

 

Key Requirements of the Role:

  • Deliver high quality, highly available, reliable, scalable, & secure capabilities around service-based architectures and tools
  • Provide technology leadership across Braintree and PayPal to deliver world class E2E capabilities to accelerate our migration to cloud hosted services
  • Provide company-wide leadership and guidance on standards, best practices for services implementation and developer productivity tools by constantly incorporating the best-in-class technologies and standards
  • Hire and retain top talent in the industry; inspire the organization by exceeding expectations of customers, business partners, and cross-enterprise product and engineering teams
  • Lead standardization of deployment architecture and automation for the platform team; provide this as a capability to the rest of the company
  • Lead the seamless migration of customers from our datacenter to services running on our cloud platform
  • Build out our cloud infrastructure to deploy services that run across multiple regions in an active/active configuration
  • Creating and manage a streamlined 24/7 incident management program with best-in-class operating principles and service levels

 

Additional Characteristics of the Role:

Technical

  • Experience working in an environment with services running in both physical datacenters and cloud environments
  • Experience delivering high-volume, highly reliable, highly available, multi-tiered applications
  • Specific experience around disaster recovery, active/active operations, and business continuity planning and execution

Leadership

  • Proven ability to develop high performing organizations, inspire & lead globally distributed teams
  • Ability to galvanize the company around mission and charter; serving as an internal change agent to drive speed and innovation for developer community through technology and standards
  • Strong focus on learning, applying, and extending best-in-class industry practices to continue to raise the bar on providing developer delight and speed of delivery for the company
  • Visionary thought leadership; can influence and evolve mindset by translating the vision to storytelling with data and demos
  • Successful track record of building relationships, customer empathy and working across multiple BUs to successfully affect change
  • Experience coaching/mentoring both engineers and engineering managers in a geographically distributed environment
  • Manage a CapEx/OpEx budget for physical assets and platform services.
