Job description

Devbridge is looking for an Interaction Designer to join our Chicago team. As a member of our team you will be tasked with a variety of projects ranging from responsive web design to mobile apps. Ideal candidates will have at least 3-5 years experience working in a design capacity at an agency or technology startup. We work with a wide variety of industries and you will participate in client initiatives as well assisting in developing our own products.

Successful candidates should share the philosophy that good user experience design is based on engaging the intended audience, not a ten-step list of usability rules.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create key user experience deliverables such as site maps, wireframes, user journeys and user personas.
  • Assist in user research activities such as user-testing, prototype testing, voice of customer studies and card sorting.
  • Work with Product Owners, fellow Designers, and Engineers to strategize winning design solutions based on real-world needs.
  • Help manage the design process, drive decisions, and coordinate efforts within your team.
  • Mentor junior practitioners and help those with less experience grow and develop.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the design industry.
  • An extensive online portfolio that includes samples of interaction design and your rationale behind the proposed solutions.
  • The ability to craft simple and refined interactions designed to facilitate action and reduce cognitive overhead.
  • Strong project and people management skills. Must be able to function as a project leader as well as an individual contributor.
  • Able to present and defend ideas in an articulate manner.
  • A keen interest in emerging technologies and how they might impact future design decisions.
  • Noted skill in translating ambiguous requirements into a working experience design.
  • Focus on design first and foremost and research as a support activity.
  • Firm grasp on the demands of designing for dynamic content. This is a design role, but the ideal candidate must understand the demands of the medium.
  • A high degree of comfort with visual design principles and how they impact usability best practices.
  • An interest in the methodologies and processes inherent to a User-Centered design practice.
  • Responsive web design experience.
  • Back of the hand knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and standard business applications such as MS Office Suite, Powerpoint, etc.
  • Familiarity with prototyping and wireframing tools such as Omnigraffle, Balsamiq, Axure and/or Protoshare.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced and high growth environment.
It is great if you also have:
  • Familiarity with Invision.
  • Experience participating in and/or moderating user testing sessions.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Basic front-end development skills and their impact on interaction.
  • Knowledge of  jQuery, prototype, and other animation / interactivity tools.
  • SEO / SEM basics.
  • Mobile platform design patterns (iOS and Android specifically).
  • Familiarity with the principles of Design Thinking.
Benefits:
  • A development focused international company with variety of challenging and compelling projects;
  • Opportunity to grow in informal style of communication and management environment that is constantly looking for great team players and leaders to take;
  • A chance to work with the top talent professionals and award winning teams;
  • Participation in professional improvement seminars;
  • Competitive salary and performance based bonuses;
  • Health and dental insurance;
  • Three weeks paid vacation plus standard United States holidays;
  • 401(k) plan;
  • Maternity/Paternity benefit;
  • Gym membership;
  • Team building events, Friday lunches and stocked kitchen;
  • Employee referral program.

Please submit the application with your portfolio to be considered for this role.
