Are you an expert developer who loves to impart knowledge and help budding developers create cool things and launch their own careers? Anyone Can Learn To Code is looking for a part time Lead Engineering Mentor to help our students build awesome projects.

One of the key components of our program is that each student builds their own “Capstone” project of their own choosing, which they eventually demonstrate at our Student Showcase which is attended by many potential employers. Each project is built with Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, and AngularJS, and typically have some custom built JSON APIs that are consumed by the AngularJS front end.

Most of the Anyone Can Learn to Code course consists of instruction and individual exercises, but there are specific times in which students work on their Capstones (totaling approximately 70 hours). These hours are:

  • Sunday from 3 PM to 5 PM.
  • Monday through Thursday from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
  • During the final week of the course: Sunday 9 AM to 5 PM, and weeknights from 6 PM to 9:30 PM.

It is for these hours that we are looking for a Lead Engineering Mentor to work with each student as they need assistance, and lead our other Teaching Assistants as they also help with this task. You will be very familiar with each student’s project throughout the course, and help with the entire process: You’ll be involved from the planning phase to the implementation phase to the final touch ups. And whenever all the other TAs are stumped with something, it’ll be up to you to solve it.

The students start working on their capstones on week 5 of the 12 week course, so the Lead Engineering Mentor is needed for the final 8 weeks out of each course. The upcoming eight week period will run from 2/22/15 through 4/16/15.

We need someone who is:

  • An excellent communicator
  • Has a passion for teaching
  • Experienced with Ruby on Rails
  • Experienced with JavaScript

Bonus points for:

  • AngularJS experience
  • Previous mentoring experience
