 Lead Mobile Software Engineer

Reports to SE Manager in charge of Mobile

Mobile Software Engineering Overview:

As a Lead Mobile Engineer, you will oversee the technical vision of various mobile initiatives across the globe.  You will be working collaboratively with both our iOS/Android teams and business partners to create and support mobile applications, while paying close attention to the impact your features have on customers, and adapt as needed.

You will help us make the right choices in relation to Mobile Apps in different countries. You will serve customers in Brazil who love their Android and every version of Android API. You will serve customers across multiple brands in the UK. You will start to spell colour with a U.

You will learn and evolve as our industry does. You will not be afraid of exploring new technologies and evaluating the ones which can help serve our customers better.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver mobile Apps that our customers love
  • Contribute robust features (complete with tests and documentation) and debug mobile applications, paying special attention to application responsiveness, battery usage, low data usage scenarios.
  • Lead and design Mobile Architecture for multiple applications
  • Ensure that all of the relevant UX and UI details are covered with a passion for the best experience
  • You will consider the implications of the product, its customers, their cultural differences and technological differences when making technology recommendations
  • Work with multiple technology stacks to deliver the right Mobile experience for our customers’ needs, i.e. use the right tool for the right job, whether it be Native, React Native, PWA or even Flutter
  • You will  help evolve the team, impact the technology we deliver, and what experience we deliver to our customers.
  • You will mentor and educate other software engineers on our mobile application to ensure alignment on business needs and to foster strong business partnerships.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Music, or equivalent experience, e.g. building Mobile Apps for a couple years
  • 3 years+ experience with multiple iPhone and/or Android technologies (Objective C, Cocoa, Swift, Java, iPhone SDK, Android SDK)
  • Familiarity with industry-wide best developments including different ways to build a Mobile App whether it be HTML5, Hybrid, or Native
  • Have Mobile Architecture experience and know how to avoid growing pains for Mobile Apps
  • Proficiency with the design and use of APIs  and considering the real world implications with networking, security and performance
  • Have a passion for  UX and UI while paying attention to the impact your features have on customers, and adapting as needed.
  • Understand how different devices and different Operating Systems can impact features and UI
  • Experience with deployment of Mobile Apps to the App Stores
  • Have led a mobile team or coached/mentored mobile engineers
  • Have experience training web engineers to become Mobile engineers
  • Familiarity with building software that talks to multiple services and touches legacy code

The Software Engineering Team, one of the largest groups in the company, is responsible and accountable for meeting the demand of both technical and business advancements. We help create the “Tech” in FinTech.

We are structured into small full-stack teams, each aligned to specific core initiatives or products. Our primary application stack includes Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and Go. We use Ember and other JS frameworks for front-end development. The teams are responsible for defining and delivering solutions through constant iterative development.
