 Merchandiser (Industrial Goods)

Grainger Tech. is looking for a Merchandiser for our Merchandising group.  Located downtown Chicago, Grainger Tech is a start-up operation being launched by Grainger.  You will get the best of both worlds!!

Primary focus:

The primary focus of this role is to develop the merchandising strategy and achieve customer satisfaction by optimizing site content. The Senior Online Merchandiser role uses web analytics and product research to optimize the customer’s discovery and selection of products, providing innovative tools and methods to refine the customers purchase to fit their needs. This position works with internal and external business partners to ensure all product information and content development is being created, submitted and checked so they can execute the vision of the plan. This is a complex role requiring diligent management of multiple concurrent work queues operating under ambitious deadlines. This role will report directly to the Merchandising Leader.

Merchandising:

  • Responsible for developing merchandising strategy and implementing online product presentation, ensuring items are merchandised in the best possible product groupings with the best possible attribute data and initiating the development any product related content.
  • Maximize product selection by overseeing the addition of new items to the website, ensuring all products are displayed online in the correct hierarchy with the necessary information.
  • Optimize the customer product selection experience.

Product Data:

  • Learn details of product families including how they work and what information is necessary to select them.
  • Make necessary additions, edits and corrections to product data. Gather information on customers' reactions to products. Maintain awareness of competitors' performance.

Analytics

  • Leverage reporting capabilities to monitor specific performance metrics and suggest appropriate modifications to category presentation to improve the customer experience.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Build relationships across the organization that will identify merchandising/marketing/ecommerce opportunities to improve our business and our customer’s experience.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or support merchandising improvement initiatives and other special projects.
  • Work collaboratively to design new interface and content to make our product offering the fastest and easiest portfolio to navigate, search, and select products.

Position Requirements:

  • 8+ years’ experience in product management, merchandising, marketing, new product development, or technical sales.
  • BS/BA degree in engineering, technology, marketing, or business preferred.
  • An ideal candidate would have an engineering/technical background and an interest in business/marketing. The person would enjoy learning how products work and figuring out how to communicate product features/benefits to customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills and obsessive attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated successful project management skills.
  • Adept at prioritization and multitasking.
  • Familiarity with any manufacturing processes is a plus. (knows the business)
  • Ability to drive action through the activity of others in order to reach stated objectives. Also provides team members with constructive feedback relative to performance and personal development. (leadership/developing self and others).
  • Excellent communication skills—written, interpersonal and small group presentation. Must be able to translate data into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Strong systemic thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and facilitation skills.
  • Experience with e-commerce businesses
