Our Network Engineers are responsible for the configuration, implementation, and administration of the organization’s network and voice configurations and connections. The ideal candidate will be succesfful at analyzing and resolving problems associated with network and voice systems.  Day to day they will perform a wide variety of tasks in software/hardware maintenance and operational support. As a Network Engineer at SMS Assist you will be expected to establish rapport with vendors and carriers.  Our Network Engineers also act as liaisons between other Information Technology teams.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES for the NETWORK ENGINEER role:

• Performs trouble-shooting for network and voice hardware and software problems
• Maximizing network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades and collaborating with network architects on network optimization
• Manage and monitor Cisco Unified Communications Solutions; Voice Over IP, Call Manger, Voicemail, and Call Center
• Performs switch and firewall configuration and support in line with IT security policy
• Responsible for the data integrity and security on the network
• Responsible for the development, delivery, deployment of network and voice software, hardware, utilities and packaged programs
• Capacity management and audit of IP addressing and hosted devices within data centers
• Interacts with vendors and carriers on a regular basis
• Provides network and voice technical guidance for vendor and contract negotiations
• Participates in disaster recovery and contingency planning activities

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS for the NETWORK ENGINEER role:

• Provides support for more complex technical issues
• Other duties as assigned

SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE needed for the NETWORK ENGINEER role:

• BS in computer related field preferred but not required. (Equivalent experience will suffice)
• 2-3 years of experience with Ethernet network environment and peripherals
• 2-3 years of experience with Cisco routers and switches
• 2-3 years of experience with Cisco Unified Communications Solutions; Voice Over IP
• 2-3 years providing customer service support
• Working knowledge of network monitoring tools
• Strong problem solving
• Strong verbal and writing skills required
• Project management skills preferred
• Work as a team member in a fast paced environment

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE for the NETWORK ENGINEER role:

• Experience with HP, IBM or Dell servers
• Experience with VMWare or Hyper-V 2008/2012
• Experience with Windows Server 2008 R2 and/or Server 2012 R2
• Experience with Exchange 2010 and/or Exchange 2013
• Technical background on IBM PC/AT compatible type of hardware and peripherals
• Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, SMTP protocol, DHCP, TCP/IP, WINS, and DNS
