 Job Description:
Offsite SEO Specialist

In this entry-level “enterprise in-house SEO” role, the Offsite SEO Specialist contributes to the organic search engine optimization of Cars.com consumer properties. Working under the mentorship of the SEO team, this role is responsible for the management, growth, and optimization of backlink portfolios for Cars.com and owned properties. The Specialist will be required to report on portfolio growth (content outreach, link placement opportunities), optimization (portfolio cleanup, placement optimization), and competitive analysis.

Responsibilities include:
  • Continually develop organic SEO expertise training, hands-on experience, conference and networking opportunities, and study of industry trends
  • Performing research and analysis of offsite link opportunities through earned (natural) and acquired (relationship building) placements
  • Identify competitive link profile gap opportunities and recommend means to close gaps based on user intent
  • Monitor comprehensive data portfolio including follow/nofollow distribution, spam score risk, new links, lost links, destination, anchor text, and links by quality score
  • Communication of opportunities to content creators, internal PR team, and internal Social Media team
  • Assist in tracking, interpreting and communicating the value of offsite efforts
  • Research and analyze performance of competitor site
  • Initiate outreach and track efforts when appropriate
Required Skills:
  • Strong electronic and oral communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Advanced experience with Excel
  • History working with data from multiple third party inputs, combining that data into useful, data-driven reports that guide business decisions
  • Demonstrable ability to track individual outreach requests and report on status
  • Basic understanding of search engine optimization and how backlink portfolios impact SEO efforts
  • Familiarity with website analytics (especially SEO analytics techniques and challenges) and tools such as Adobe Analytics (formerly Omniture), Google Analytics, and/or Tableau a plus
  • Experience with link profile tools (Majestic, Moz, LinkResearchTools, aHrefs, etc.) a plus
Required Experience:
  • Degree in Marketing, Statistics, or a related field helpful but not required
  • 1-2 years of experience in SEO or a related field such as search engine marketing, user experience, information architect, web product manager or similar role helpful
  • Direct experience with e-Commerce, online classifieds, online data-reporting or large scale web application development initiatives a plus
