Project Manager
The Role:
The Managed Portfolios team is seeking a Project Manager to join the product development team. We're looking for an assertive, detail-oriented, self-starter who is able to work effectively in a highly collaborative, Agile team environment. Agile Project Managers are responsible for facilitating the planning and execution of product development projects/programs through coordination of multiple disciplines. They are stewards of Morningstar’s development framework and operational best practices. Most importantly, they are responsible for the delivery of business requirements in the form of working software, at regular, frequent intervals. This position is based in our Chicago office and will act as Scrum Master for 1-2 squads in Chicago.
Responsibilities:
• Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies, including Stand-ups, Backlog Grooming, Story Estimation, Sprint Planning, Team Retrospectives, and Release Planning; arranging for resources the team needs and ensuring full team involvement.
• Track project and Sprint progress to identify and resolve issues or roadblocks to ensure objectives, goals, and commitments are met, including managing follow-up tasks, leveraging organizational resources, or escalating risks with management.
• Champion ongoing process improvement initiatives and provide Agile and Operational Best Practice coaching to help the team(s) produce iterative, high-quality business value at a sustainable pace.
• Coordinate with other teams, products or stakeholders where dependencies exist, both within and outside of Managed Portfolios, to align on project schedules and deadlines.
• Support the Product Owner(s) in managing project deliverables, prioritizing the backlog and grooming user stories and acceptance criteria.
Requirements:
• A bachelor's degree is required.
• Familiarity with software development life cycle models and Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, XP, Lean).
• 1-3 years of experience in Project Management.
• Effective at creating and communicating project reports including status reports, velocity metrics, burndown charts, etc
• Strong interpersonal skills for coaching, team building, and negotiating.
• Strong analytical, planning and organizational skills for managing competing demands and priorities.
• Ability to understand the business and client needs with a creative problem-solving mindset.
• Comfortable in dealing with ambiguity in a fast-paced, complex environment with the ability to keep the team focused on business objectives.
• Willingness to work off-hours to support production releases and collaborate with offshore development teams.
• Experience with investment products, advisor software, fee-based managed accounts or Turnkey Asset Management Programs preferred.
• Scrum Master certification preferred.
