Qualitative Insights Researcher
The GrubHub Insights team is a well balanced mix of qualitative and quantitative researchers who are passionate about understanding people’s needs, behaviors and attitudes. This person will be responsible for designing and conducting large-scale qualitative studies that serve as foundational knowledge for employees across the company. They will help us maintain our understanding of the diner, restaurant and delivery partners and their experiences across the Grubhub brand which includes product, customer service, ongoing engagement, and other important touchpoints.
Some Challenges You’ll Tackle- Conduct large-scale qualitative studies around the needs, attitudes and behaviors of Grubhub’s diners, restaurant and delivery partners. Work hand in hand with quantitative researchers to support and validate qualitative insights.
- Build and maintain foundational knowledge and understanding of customer segments and their experience with our brand.
- Work closely across the organization with various stakeholders including marketing leaders, sales and operations team members and product managers, to identify strategic initiatives and uncover new business opportunities.
- Use a variety of research methods and tools to best reach the goals of each project in order to provide rich, actionable insight
- Communicate research insights and recommendations to executive leadership and internal stakeholders in a clear and compelling way
- Learn the Grubhub business and internal structure to help influence and ensure research recommendations are tailored to drive action within the organization.
- Potentially facilitate workshops and innovation challenges among multidisciplinary teams (such as marketing brand and creative team) to inspire and encourage creative thinking. Great ideas can come from anywhere.
- 2-4 years of industry experience using exploratory qualitative research methodologies including: contextual inquiry and ethnographic field studies, one-on-one interviews, focus groups, diary studies, etc. You may have worked in market research, consulting, consumer insights, or some other related field.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and storytelling skills with advanced skills in putting together highly visual presentations.
- Influential communicator comfortable presenting and tailoring research insights to audiences at various levels including senior executives.
- Ability to translate insights into a powerful story that can be adapted to different audiences; advanced skills in putting together highly visual PowerPoint report deliverables
- Experience conducting research among different customer groups including both consumer and B2B audiences .
- Self starter who can translate research into action for cross-functional teams.
- Strong capacity for creativity; ability to brainstorm to come up with creative solutions to business and research problems
- Healthy balance between strategic thinking and scrupulous attention to detail
- Outstanding problem solving and ability to quickly move from blank slate to a well-defined research problem matched with a suitable methodology
- Comfortable working both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, quick turnaround environment
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred in design, research, anthropology, psychology, marketing, social science or a related field
