We’re expanding our team at project44!  Check out the details below in an incredibly accurate, though maybe not entirely non-fictional, Q&A about the position.  

Q: What is project44? 

A:  Great question!  project44 is a tech startup that does three things:

  1. We are creating a new industry standard by becoming the first network platform to connect the freight industry through web services APIs.  Think of us as the pipes that allow data to be instantly communicated from one system to another, supercharging the speed of the technology systems that shippers, carriers, 3PLs, and other ecosystem players use. The result is real-time freight transportation management.

  2. We are the first and only company offering dynamic pricing in the freight industry.  You may ask “What is dynamic pricing?”  Dynamic pricing is the ability to adjust pricing based on real-time supply and demand.  Airlines are a great example of an industry that uses dynamic pricing – if Virgin Airlines has 50 open seats on a flight leaving LAX to JFK next Tuesday, then they lower the price of a ticket to fill the plane.  If the same plane only has one seat left, then they increase the price of that seat.  Dynamic pricing allows Virgin to fill their planes and maximize their revenues.  In the freight industry today, LTL carriers charge a static price regardless of supply and demand.  project44 is the first and only company that offers dynamic pricing allowing carriers to maximize their revenue.

  3. We are using our the data derived from web services APIs and dynamic pricing to build a predictive analytics offering that allows Shippers and 3PLs meet delivery commitments and proactively manage customer expectations

Q: What role are you adding to your team? 

A:  Another good one!  We’re recruiting for the position of “Sales Associate”.  The title is negotiable, but our original idea of  “Best Sales Person Ever” seemed to set the bar a little high out of the gate (though, we’re certainly open to being wowed). 

Q: What are you looking for them to do? 

A:  Wow, lots of questions.  Thought we could’ve sold you on the first two.  The Sales Associate will grow project44 by reaching out to 3PLs, carriers, and shippers to get them excited about how project44 can supercharge their businesses, get them excited, and then transition them to speak with one of our experienced Sales Directors.  We want someone who loves hitting the phones and talking to people.  All-star Sales Associates will have the opportunity to move up into more complex selling roles over time.  Our Sales Associates will also get to meet great people and talk about project44 at some of our upcoming trade shows. 

Q: What skills do you think they’ll need to do that? 

  • A stellar attitude and aptitude for being extraordinary
  • At least one year of work experience required (candidates that do not meet this requirement will not be considered)
  • At least one year of sales/cold calling experience is preferred
  • Mastery of consultative software sales and/or the SPIN selling approach
  • Self-starter who can structure and prioritize his or her own workload to deliver results
  • Strong written and communication skills (a strong handle on the English language is a must, though we’re super open to someone who can throw down a tagline in other languages)
  • A college degree is a plus, but we’re open to all sorts of accomplished people
