Job Description
Cars.com is seeking an experienced Senior Application Developer to join our development team. The ideal candidate has solid experience in software development using Java/J2EE, Javascript/NodeJS or similar technologies, passionate about your work, willing to learn new things, enjoy solving difficult problems, and take pride in code. In this role, the candidate will be working in one of our product development teams to design, develop code, test and support the Product’s functionality.
The ideal candidate will be able to:
- Design and develop necessary code and tests to implement the features/functions of the applications/services that are part of the product team(s).
- Participate in planning activities to come up with the task breakdown and estimates for the features or stories assigned to them.
- Adherence to the processes for software development, documentation, configuration management, version control, testing, etc.
- Commitment to quality and timely delivery of assigned work products.
- Work with QA and other team members to support the testing and resolution of issues/defects.
- Conduct code reviews of work done by other developers in the team.
- Commitment to quality and timely delivery of assigned work products.
- Active Participation in the team meetings.
- Actively participate and contribute to the Developer Community of Practice.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
Required Skills

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of Node.js is preferred
- Substantial experience with JavaScript
- Solid knowledge of JSON/CSS and AJAX
- Solid knowledge of HTML
- Understanding of Object Oriented development is preferred
Required Experience
- Minimum of two years of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- College degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 4-7 years of experience as web developer in an online/software venue
- Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and Pair Programming
- Understanding of Web Services concepts; RESTful API experience preferred
- Experience with MV* JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Backbone, Angular, Node, CanJS) preferred
- Experience with developing applications on Node.js
- Past experience and/or advocate for front end best practices (e.g. JS unit-testing and continuous deployment)
- Agile/Scrum/Lean experience preferred
