The purpose of the higi design practice is to help people take a more active role in their health and wellbeing by designing solutions that deepen engagement with users and stakeholders, engender trust with audiences, and acculturate design as an organizational competency.

The scope of the design practice spans the entirety of the product solutions portfolio and includes 360 research, the higi health station, visual user interfaces, the visual brand language represented in marketing collateral, and responsibility for product efficacy.  

The Role

Chiefly, we’ll depend on the senior communication and interface designer to guide, evolve, and curate higi’s visual communication and interface language across the product solutions portfolio. The successful candidate is an accomplished Human-Centered Design practitioner and has expertise of the framework, its methods, principles, and process. As a senior member of the design practice, this senior designer stewards higi’s Human-Centered Design framework and champions the application of the framework through mentorship and coaching of colleagues to foster a team culture of learning and progressive mastery and acculturate design as an organizational competency.

Responsibilities

-          Curate a cohesive, cross-product appearance model and visual language

-          Leverage communication design to elevate brand perception and reinforce product value

-          Develop and refine interface style guidelines, patterns, and supporting interaction standards

-          Design the appearance of interface elements that successfully facilitate desired user behavior and emotions

-          Base decisions on design principles and research evidence, effectively communicating rationale with others

-          Mentor design colleagues on visual, communication, and interface design

-          Contribute to the evolution of the higi HCD framework

-          Provide guidance on communication and interface design’s influence of the overall, end-to-end user experience

-          Effectively communicate the user experience in multiple ways (e.g. user flows, journey maps, storyboards, scenarios, wireframes and prototypes).

-          Clearly document, synthesize and communicate research findings

-          Educate the organization on the business value of design

Requirements

-          A stellar portfolio demonstrating compelling communication and visual interface design

-          Your design approach begins and ends with people; you lead with empathy

-          You can articulate the value and process of human-centered design

-          Experience applying principles of persuasive technology and behavior change to design solutions

-          A strong grasp of aesthetic standards, usability principles, and accessibility heuristics

-          Experience deploying a variety of design research methods

-          An understanding of design and technology trends and a strategic perspective on how they apply to innovation and product design and development

-          Experience in healthcare is not required, but is a plus

-          Ability to articulate why you’re uniquely qualified for this position

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree. Advanced education in visual design, HCI or cognitive or behavior science is a plus

Experience
- 6 - 8 years of experience in progressive user interface and/or communication design roles

Portfolio
- Several types of documentation detailing your design process, in addition to beautiful and compelling visual interface designs that demonstrate a balance between convention and affordance with novel approaches. Technical
- Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite and Sketch. Other IA/prototyping tools a plus.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Front-end development experience a plus.
- Understanding of adaptive and responsive design
- Experience working in an agile environment
