Job Description
 

Cars.com is seeking a Senior Data Analyst – Tag Management specialist to drive and promote data quality and data collection best practices and ensure web site data collection tags are managed and maintained. This role functions as a business-technology liaison position, and utilizes knowledge about the metrics and analytics required to support business functional areas. The Data Analyst understands business objectives, data questions, and site-tagging problems to ensure accuracy of data capture. This is a collaborative role, translating business needs into the data requirements and data structures in support of reporting, ad hoc queries, and analytics.  This role also has responsibility for stewardship over reporting data and metrics most important to business constituents; the Data Analyst will support the ongoing efforts around data governance and data quality. This role is responsible for cleansing and integrating data from numerous proprietary and syndicated sources (e.g. Cars.com Activity Logging Service, Adobe Analytics, DFP, Signal, Krux, etc.) to support the Business Intelligence and Analytics needs of business partners. The ideal candidate is strongly motivated by analyzing and profiling data, and helping maintain web page tags to ensure usable and reliable data. The role calls for experience with web tagging, web analytics, Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing.

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Work with business partners to determine web analytic tagging and internal activity logging requirements 
  • Drive the standardization of third party tagging code to ensure the capture of quality and consistent data across pages and channels
  • Work cross functionally across business and technology departments to implement Adobe’s Dynamic Tag Management (DTM) solution
  • Analyze data to identify and isolate issues with third party tags, web analytics code, and activity logging implementations
  • Help drive the evolution of third party data capture implementation strategies 
  • Perform as data steward for web analytic and internal activity logging data
  • Implement website tags and maintain tagging metadata
  • Analyze and monitor data to identify web crawler and bot activity
  • Work closely with developer to resolve and test ETL issues
  • Responsible for data QA pre-release and post development
  • Handle issue resolution during UAT on Production data
  • Provide data analysis support for the Data Governance Community of Practice initiatives 
 
Required Skills
 
  • Proficiency querying, profiling and analyzing data, and understanding data and reporting business rules
  • Ability to translate business needs into data and data transformation requirements
  • Proficient programming skills with the ability to analyze, assess, recommend and guide implementation of web site tagging and data collection technologies
  • Create detailed documentation describing data mapping and transformation processing
  • Understanding of how to monitor and assess data quality
  • Ability to debug and resolve issues quickly
  • Flexibility to work on multiple simultaneous assignments, having a high comfort level with assignment prioritization changes
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to present to various business and technical teams
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
 
Required Experience
 
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, M.I.S., Business, Math/Stats or related field
  •  Four or more years of experience with one of the following technologies (JavaScript, Java, jQuery, PHP, AngularJS)
  • At least three years of experience with one of the following Web Analytics tools (Webtrends, Google Analytics, Adobe Omniture preferred)
  • At least two years of experience managing website tagging implementations (Tealium, Google Tag Manager, Ensighten, Signal preferred)
  • At least two years of experience writing SQL queries
  • At least two years or experience developing business requirements and use case documentation
  • Experience with BI tools a plus (Business Objects XI and Tableau preferred)
