The Senior DevOps Software Engineer is responsible for engineering a large distributed solution and working with departmental contacts to support the demands of the department and meet the objectives of the product development process.

Responsibilities

The Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for delivering results for the Product Development department by:

  • Be a DevOps champion - work closely with the team to build and automate security, reliability, scalability...basically everything into the development lifecycle
  • Design and develop tools to aid our cloud-based continuous delivery system as well as work jointly with other team members to deliver innovative solutions to complex business and engineering challenges
  • Estimate engineering effort, plan implementation, and rollout system changes that are highly distributed, performant, available, scalable, and self-healing in the cloud.
  • Collaborate in a fast-paced environment with multiple teams in a large organization. (Development, Release Management, Engineer Operations, etc.)
  • Improve customer experience by providing greater visibility on their bills and manage their cost more efficiently
  • Define and deploy monitoring, metrics, and logging tools that alarm and display metrics coming from our active processes
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to application development, deployment, and operations
  • Provide a dependable and highly skilled development resource for peers

The Senior DevOps Engineer performs the following functions, in addition to others:

  • Advocate and model coding and collaboration practices, reviews team code, and provides team members with feedback and suggestions for process improvement
  • Collaborate with other dev teams regularly to establish an outbound and inbound pipeline of new (to Relativity) practices to continually tune the team’s process
  • Oversee the application environment to effectively run and maintain the technology and recommend any potential technology or process improvements with an emphasis on cloud computing and configuration management platforms
  • Remain open to new ideas and encourage innovative practices amongst peers
  • Work with test engineers to encourage defect prevention over detection

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related discipline
  • 7+ years of software development of commercial-grade systems
  • 5+ years of supporting customer facing web delivered software
  • 3+ years of cloud experience preferred
  • 1 + year(s) of experience with a scripting language. (Shell, Python, Bash, Perl, etc.)
  • Experience with Configuration Management Tools (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt, etc.)
  • Experience in rolling out application changes to multiple distributed systems in a production environment
  • Desire and drive to learn and keep up-to-date on technology. Ability to filter vaporware, fun to learn, from value add technology
  • Familiarity with cloud network, infrastructure, and security components.
  • Experience with operations for JVM-based applications
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies
  • Extraordinary sense of ownership and passion for writing world-class software
  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Possess excellent teamwork and partnering skills for cross-group collaboration
  • Possess excellent leadership skills, ability to perform under the pressure and deliver technical solution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with Azure
  • Experience with Kafka, Cassandra, Spark, Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Mesos, Cloud Foundry, or OpenShift
  • Experience writing code in Scala or Java
  • Experience with a 24/7 production environment
  • Knowledge of analytics or Machine Learning workflows
