Senior System Engineer

Hireology is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for the design and implementation of an agile, cost efficient, robust, secure infrastructure that can act as the foundation for our application and company. You will be collaborating with various teams on strategic projects and initiatives.
Hireology is based in Chicago, but our Engineering team works remotely, so you’ll have the option of working from the comfort of your home (or right in our office if you’re local). Here’s some of the things you’ll do on a day-to-day basis with us:
- Provide strategic direction related to infrastructure
- Develop and maintain infrastructure standards and tools
- Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration between application and infrastructure architecture
- Design, build and maintain an infrastructure that scales efficiently for Hireology's goals
- Translate business goals into actionable items
- Evaluate emerging technologies, trends to produce competitive advantage
- Develop and maintain a security discipline
- Establish measures for performance and capacity
To qualify for consideration, you’ll have:
- 5+ years experience designing, delivering, supporting, and managing complex IT infrastructure for mission critical, large scale Linux based systems
- Experience in a System Engineer role at a startup
- Good knowledge in the following fields: Linux/UNIX server infrastructure, virtualization, cloud infrastructure and automation (Linode is a plus), application infrastructure
- Proven experience designing and implementing automation tools for virtual machine deployment
- Strong scripting skills (Shell, Python, Perl, Ruby)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work independently and/or as part of a team
- Innovative, forward looking, self motivated and result focused
Extra credit for:
- Networking knowledge (double extra credit for CCNE or CCNA certification)
- Previous experience with Ruby on Rails application infrastructures
- Familiarity with system administration automation tools like Puppet and Chef
- RHCE or RCHA certification
- Previous experience with distributed databases, search infrastructure, message queues, and big data infrastructure
