Join Our Team // SharePoint Architect

The SharePoint Architect will oversee and lead the architectural design, development, customization and integration efforts of enterprise solutions involving Collaboration, Portals, Enterprise Search, Enterprise Content Management (ECM), Business Process and Forms, and Business Intelligence (BI), using SharePoint Server, SharePoint Foundation, SharePoint Designer and Office 365. The SharePoint Architect will also contribute subject matter expertise and provide mentorship and training to clients and junior professionals.

Sample Responsibilities
  • Lead meetings and engage with clients to:
    • Gather requirements
    • Collaborate
    • Gain insight into business objectives
    • Participate in business process analysis, document the process flow using tools like Visio, and work with the client to optimize the process from a procedural and technology standpoint.  Iterate through the process with the client to review/refine and seek sign off
    • Educate on SharePoint functionality
    • Look for and act on additional project opportunities
  • Develop the technical design approach:
    • Define the relationship between the physical and logical architecture
    • Define site architecture including: site columns and content types, site/list/library structure
    • Define the technical approach to implementing functionality such as workflow, records management, pages, and web parts
    • Define the technical approach to administrative functionality such as office web apps, search, managed metadata, and security
    • Determine when and how to use custom solutions
    • Define the deployment process
  • Support the team in building solutions
    • Install and Configure SharePoint
    • Install and Configure FAST Search for SharePoint
    • Configure search (content sources, scopes, managed properties)
    • Configure Managed Metadata Service
    • Install Adobe iFilter
    • Install 3rd party or custom solutions
    • Create site columns and content types
    • Configure sites, lists, and libraries
    • Implement custom master pages and page layouts
    • Configure web parts
    • Implement SharePoint Designer (or 3rd party) workflows
    • Configure and customize the search center
  • Lead Solution Administration
    • Administer/maintain web applications and services in Central Administration (such as Search, User Profiles, and Managed Metadata)
    • Implement security model
    • Define and implement governance plans
    • Define and implement disaster recovery plans
  • Lead Quality Assurance and Testing
    • Work with development team to ensure business requirements are met
    • Inspect application to ensure it meets the technical specification
    • Work with project lead to prioritize and resolve issues
Required Education
  • B.A. or B.S. (required).  Bachelor Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems (MIS) or related field (preferred)
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Minimum of 4-7+ in the SharePoint realm with a minimum of 2+ years of SharePoint technical lead and architecture experience on enterprise initiatives
  • Must possess advanced knowledge of business workflows and have an in-depth understanding of the capabilities of Workflow Foundation, SharePoint, SharePoint Foundation, SharePoint Designer, SharePoint Server, Windows SharePoint Services, and SharePoint Designer
  • In-depth experience with Collaboration, Portals, Enterprise Search, Enterprise Content Management, Business Process and Forms, and/or Business Intelligence features is required
  • Ability to evaluate, select and articulate product strategies across the Microsoft Office Stack
  • Experience with Microsoft Office InfoPath Forms Services is highly preferred, as is experience with SharePoint Templates (Application Templates, Master Pages, Role-Based Templates, and the Community Kit for SharePoint)
  • SharePoint knowledge should include architectural design, server installation, management and troubleshooting with a focus on planning, deploying and supporting enterprise SharePoint implementations
  • Development experience with Microsoft.NET technologies is also preferred (e.g. ASP.NET, C#, XML, CSS, HTML, IIS, BizTalk Server, SQL Server, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the .NET Framework and experience working in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is also preferred
  • Prior team lead experience on SharePoint implementations
  • An ideal candidate would have significant hands on experience with configuring and implementing:
  • Lists and libraries
  • Site columns and content types
  • Workflows
  • Search
  • Web parts
  • Master pages
  • Page Layouts
  • CSS
  • XSLT
  • Records retention
  • Experience with 3rd party tools
  • The ability to bring it all together to architect a scalable system
  • Make strategic decisions around an implementation approach
  • Have experience with governance policies and procedures
  • Experience in administering SharePoint (at the site collection level, as well as via Central Administration)
  • Know when to use out of the box/no-code solution and when to use 3rd party or custom applications
