Your role and impact

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you are a hybrid software and systems engineer responsible for reliability, availability, automation, and other areas related to ensuring that the project44 service runs smoothly and has capacity for future growth.

You will be embedded with the various development teams to ensure that as the system scales and new features are delivered, reliability is not compromised.

You will work on code and automation to create new systems for scaling deployments and the mission-critical operation of our cloud platform. 

Come help us build a bigger and better project44 as a Site Reliability Engineer. You will be part of a family within project44 which has an enormous impact on the logistics space.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and improve the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our systems through both automation and code development within the dev teams
  • Create scalable alerting and auto remediation systems
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and monitoring of our systems to ensure SLA and capacity requirements
  • Design the system and processes that project44 engineers use to deploy their software into production
  • Monitor and respond to production metrics and alerting notifications
  • Help evaluate and choose emerging technologies…containers, auto-scaling, self-healing capabilities, performance and code quality tooling, etc. Determine the right tool for the right task.

Desired Skills

While one size doesn’t fit all, here’s a quick rundown of some of the skills we’re looking for:

  • Java / Tomcat / Spring Cloud for micro services
  • Containers (Docker, Packer, Vagrant)
  • AWS EC2, auto-scaling, VPCs, Route53, and others
  • Ansible for automation and our CD pipeline
  • Jenkins for builds and task execution
  • Linux (Ubuntu)

Desired Experience

  •  4+ years of operational development experience
  • Experience with operating AWS infrastructures (VPCs, ELBs, security groups, NAT gateways, auto-scaling, RDS, S3, CloudWatch)
  • Experience with metrics and alerting platforms such as Zabbix, New Relic, AppDynamics
  • Experience building and operating complex distributed systems
  • Proficient in high level script languages such as Python or Groovy
  • Experience developing solutions leveraging Docker
  • Experience managing Linux (Ubuntu) systems
  • Configuration management experience with Ansible
  • Building/implementing monitoring for network, server, application, and database layers
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Zabbix, Grafana, CloudWatch
  • Experience with APM tools such as New Relic, AppDynamics, Datadog, Runscope
  • Experience with log aggregation systems using Logstash and Elasticsearch
  • Continuous integration, testing, and deployment using git, Jenkins
  • Experience with relational databases (Postgres)
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, Cassandra, Mongo)
  • Experience with Hadoop (Cloudera), Spark, Elasticsearch, and other big data analytics platforms
  • Exceptional communication and troubleshooting skills
