Site Reliability Engineering Manager at Enova

What you'll be doing:

As the Site Reliability Engineering Manager, you’ll lead 9 engineers across three shifts providing 24/7/365 application support of our domestic and international businesses. Our SREs process hundreds of tickets per week, which include application support requests from our operations teams as well as system-generated tickets from our monitoring and reporting tools. We are at the intersection of both business and technology, so we weave between debugging application code, correcting server issues, expanding our knowledge of product and loan rules, and servicing end-user accounts – it’s all in a day’s work! You’ll lead our group of first responders, managing all production issues and overseeing the resolution of all of Enova’s most critical incidents (website downtime, performance degradation, functionality loss, etc.).

Enova hires, develops and retains top talent, so you’ll mentor your engineers and leads while seeing the benefits of a progressive career path yourself. As a leader, we expect you to passionately facilitate your team’s growth. In return, we will set you up for success by helping you develop your professional skills and supporting your own career growth.

Your core priorities will be to:

  • Lead, coach and develop engineers across 3 shifts, including remote employees
  • Manage shift leads who each have direct reports
  • Oversee 24/7/365 coverage in support of our domestic and international businesses
  • Ensure adherence to SLAs and quality standards
  • Run major incidents; our most critical and impactful technology and business issues
  • Work with the product, infrastructure, and engineering teams daily
  • Anticipate, minimize, and remove roadblocks

What you should have:

  • 4+ years as a manager within an application support environment, supporting and maintaining large web-based platforms
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing large teams, including remote employees as well as managing leads and other people managers
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven record of implementing processes to increase efficiencies and decrease incidents
  • An understanding that SRE is a service organization. You are passionate about delivering the very highest quality of support, working closely with multiple product and technology teams
  • Proven ability to establish relationships, trust, and respect with stakeholders
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL and Go, monitoring and log engines (i.e. DataDog, Big Panda, SevOne, New Relic, Splunk), graphing/stats engines (i.e. Graphana and Mathematica), and virtualization platforms (i.e. AWS, VMWare)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience

About Enova:
Enova is a leading provider of online financial services that leverages its advanced technology and analytics to provide access to credit for non-prime consumers and small businesses. Our roots are in Chicago, but we have served nearly 5 million customers through our six businesses in the U.S. and abroad. We pride ourselves on hiring smart and driven people who bring new and innovative ideas to the table. Our philosophy is, "Life’s short. Work some place awesome."

Many of us consider our people to be Enova’s best perk. But to sweeten the deal, we also have a pretty awesome list of conventional (and less conventional) perks and benefits including competitive salaries, health care benefits, a 401K matching plan, a revamped parental leave program (and brand new nursing rooms for our returning mothers!) summer hours, tuition reimbursement and a sabbatical program. And of course we also have the things you’d expect at a leading tech company in Chicago, such as the snacks, game room, onsite massages/barbers/nail technicians, monthly social events, and sporting sponsorships.

Our goal at Enova is to recruit, hire, develop and maintain a diverse workforce. It is our policy to provide equal employment opportunity for all persons and not discriminate in employment decisions by placing the most qualified person in each job, without regard to any other classification protected by federal, state, or local law.

Company Reviews

The structured LevelUp curriculum — which is a month of programming assignments in different languages and a curated list of required reading — is one of the unique ways that Enova invests in making you a better programmer. Your assignments are evaluated by an instructor, as well as your peers, which facilitates improving and growing your skillset. If there is a topic that intrigues you, guaranteed, there is generally an expert in that area a few steps away. There are so many confident and skilled software engineers to talk to, your growth is only limited by your motivation."

Enova has amazing perks like free food, comfortable dress and summer hours, but the most notable benefit is the deep investment in learning and skill-building. Software new hires go through a 10-week, self-paced training program, which culminates in a full Ruby on Rails app of your design. After training, project team members help you take on responsibility and quickly get success under your belt. Opportunities to make changes abound at Enova, where the only limit to your impact is the need for sleep.
