Software Engineer - Recent Grad 2017
Note: Applicants to this role should plan to start full-time in the summer of 2017.
Sprout Social is a social media management software that is used by more than 17,000 brands around the world. Companies like Dropbox, Zendesk, Google, Trello and Evernote rely on Sprout to create stronger relationships with their customers through social media. Our software is expertly crafted by some of the best software engineers in the industry. Our Engineering group is composed of teams for mobile, front-end, back-end and infrastructure. We are excited to bring recent college graduates onto these teams.
Front-End: On the front-end team, which we call Web, we use the latest Javascript frameworks and libraries, from React to Backbone.js, to build Web software with an unrelenting focus on the end user. A typical day has a healthy mix of building new product features, improving existing ones and fixing problems identified by our global user-base, utilizing heavy doses of JavaScript, HTML and CSS. We have an incredible team of designers so don’t worry if making it pretty isn’t your thing.
Back-End: On the back-end team, which we call Platform and Infrastructure, we design and build for performance, scale, reliability and product agility. That means picking the right tool for the job while being pragmatic and scrappy. We build services in Python and Java using technologies like Cassandra and Hadoop, HBase and Redis, Storm and Finagle. And, of course, our old friend MySQL. At the moment we’re staring down a rapidly growing 20TB Hadoop cluster and about the same amount stored in MySQL and Cassandra. We have a lot of data and we want people hungry to work at scale.
Mobile: Our mobile team is responsible for building our award-winning iOS and Android applications that are consumed by thousands of daily active users. We build features that match and complement our web application, so that customers have a seamless experience wherever they consume Sprout. We build native mobile apps using a mix of Swift, Objective-C, Java, and React Native. If you are excited about building new features that are innovative to the mobile experience, are performant, and follow the best practices prescribed by Apple and Google, we’d love to talk to you.
Above all, we believe bad software penalizes the user and great software gets out of the way. We want to help our customers not just do more, but to work better. It’s an incredible feeling to improve someone’s work with a product you built. You will build, craft, think, solve, test and perfect software that is used by brands worldwide. If you are up to the challenge, join us.
